Solar

A solar air conditioner or heater takes the place of a gas or electric powered furnace to warm air or water that circulates throughout the house to condition the air. Energy from the sun collected by thermal panels that contain copper pipes. These pipes are filled with a thermal transfer solution of water or Glycol (food-grade antifreeze). The heated solution is moved to an exchanger that warms the air that is blown through the house, as well as the hot water used for showering and dishwashing.

Similarly, for air conditioning, the heated thermal transfer solution is used to power an absorption chiller. The evaporated refrigerant is condensed within the chiller and blown to cool the building space. Another approach is to use a dessicant -- a substance such as calcium sulfate, the stuff you find in caves which, you know, are always cool -- that removes moisture and humidity from the air. Thermal energy is used to dry the dessicant, which dries the air, that is circulated to cool the building space.

Dowd's Heating and Air Conditioning technicians are trained and certified in the latest solar technologies. We can design an effective solar solution that is cost-effective and environmentally responsible (of course, all our air conditioning and heating solutions are cost effective and environmentally responsible, designed to your specific heating and cooling needs).
